With the closing of Treadway Hall as a residence for UMKC students, the potential for a derelict building along Brookside Boulevard brought pain to several institutions who make this address their home. In a combined effort of Second Presbyterian Church, Central Methodist Church, The Shepherd’s Center, Crestwood Neighborhood Association and the 49-63 Neighborhood Coalition a discussion with UMKC is underway to find new uses for what was originally built as the Brookside Hotel. A daycare center, a new gymnasium for youth activities, not-for-profit organizational offices, UMKC overflow classes and parking improvements are among ideas being considered. |
