In a new capital commitment to the urban center the Heartland Presbytery has undertaken a comprehensive study of the feasibility of converting the abandoned Linwood Presbyterian Church to its use as a community service center, housing the Presbyterys regional headquarters along with a series of other neighborhood service agencies. The 1904 tower (foreground) will be preserved and the 1923 sanctuary
and tower (beyond) will be adapted to use as the administrative and meeting center.
Linwood Boulevard was the place to be for major institutions for decades, a virtual museum
of institutional architecture, and with this new effort that history will be recalled and
will become a dominant landmark as the new Bruce Watkins Roadway comes into use during the
next few years. |
